Any place that has a separate vegetarian section on the menu automatically gets major kudos from me. The house margaritas are good and run around $4, which is quite a bit cheaper than a lot of local Mexican restaurants. I appreciate the work they put into this place. In the last 15 years, it's been at least five different places. Up until now, they all retained the old raggedy booths and outdated neon lighting. El Vallarta has completely renovated and opened the place up. I'm a big fan of the huge margarita with a Corona in it. That's one hell of an awesome $10 buzz. Finally, from a vegetarian perspective, there are more healthy options here than other Mexican places. Usually, if I'm watching my diet, it's fajitas or a cheese enchilada and a sald. Here, I can do the vegetable enchilada, spinach burrito, spinach quesadilla, etc. I've been here a few times and always gotten great service.

The service was great. The decor is really nice. The food was ok. I stopped in at the last minute thinking I could get a quick bite. Little scary that it was noon and the parking lot was almost empty. Friendly servers bring out warm chips and salsa. MMMMMMMMM I was really wanting a Carne Asada taco, but the plate they had came with 3 tacos. That's a little much for lunch, but I see it on the a la carte menu, so I thought this would be perfect! I order 1 Carne Asada taco and a side of friend beans to eat with my chips and salsa. No kidding... the waitress went to the kitchen and brought it back to me immediately! Granted... I didn't order anything crazy and tacos are easy to put together. Especially when all it is is meat on a flour tortilla. (you read that right) Now the menu for the 3 carne asada taco combo had a really nice description of steak with pico de gallo and a spicy tomatillo sauce on the side. Apparently if you order a la carte, you do not get the same thing. You get a flour tortilla with steak wrapped in tin foil. That's it... no pico or side of tomatillo. Bummer. The fried beans were good. Service quick, very friendly, and the food was ok. I'll probably try it again some day. There were other items on them menu that sounded good.

Fairly solid place for picky eaters, especially kids who aren't really wild about Mexican food. They have great margaritas, and I usually have had awesome service, though the last time we were there it was lacking, but I will chalk it up to a bad day for the server. Chips and salsa are good. The only thing I have found that is really really good is the alambre (sp?). Other stuff has been just ok for me - didn't care for the chimichanga and I don't like their enchilada sauce at all. Beans are good rice is ok. There are better places for date night Mexican if you don't have to take kids to eat, but my really picky kids love it so this is where we go with them for Mexican. And did I mention awesome cheap margaritas? Lol

I've heard so much about how good this place is and now.... I'm not an expert on Mexican food but since I've spent the majority of my life living in the Southwest part of the country, I at least know what's good. This just wasn't good. Their salsa was nothing to brag about. I mean, nothing beats Jacobo's salsa over here. I ordered the two beef taco combination plate. It was bland. The tacos were something I could've recreated at home easily. And you're not supposed to feel that way! The tortillas that came with some of the other plates at my table, tasted just like the mission tortillas you can buy at the grocery store. I honestly thought most Mexican restaurants make their tortillas in house. I was also curious about their red enchilada sauce - it tasted like pasta sauce. The service was good. All our drinks were filled up in a timely manner as well as our chips and salsa. Overall, this place is good for people who enjoy their Mexican food bland. For the others who don't, just avoid this place. I had high hopes and I was greatly let down.

I did love it at first. Then I tried something besides tacos and enchiladas on their huge menu. The best Chile Rellanos in Omaha! I love it more every time I go back.

I give this place five stars ! Happy Hour Margarita was exceptional tasting and large in size. Ordered Guacamole for apetizer. Homemade and delicious. The service was fast, polite and ambiance very inviting. Outside dining area looked inviting also. Food was hot and very authentic tasting. I will be back!!!

First steps through the door, fast seating on a busy night. Complimentary chips and salsa, ordered a margarita very tasty . Took my 10 year old who eats like a bird so she only got a hard shell taco, I ordered two flour shell tacos only are half of one. Unseasoned beef VERY bland, no lettuce, no Tomato only Unseasoned beef and cheese in a shell that exploded upon handling. Atmosphere, decoration, and best of all PRICE, Are winners but food taste is why I go out to eat.

The fajitas, refried beans, and tamales were very good. Beef burrito was nothing to write home about - lightly seasoned beef inside a traditional tortilla. The margaritas were a little weak and very sweet and we had more ice in our glasses than I've ever experienced.

Guacamole was excellent...as well as the cheese and bean dip. We ordered the carne asada dinners. They were delicious. The only thing missing was a nice wedge of lime on the side. Horchatas were little too sweet.

Ate here for lunch on a Monday in August. When we walked in there was a faint smell of new paint and the like (which I call the "new restaurant smell"). So, with that and knowing this was a new location I asked them when they first opened for business and was told that this was their first day. I must say, in all my years of dining out I have never actually been to a restaurant on its first day. First week, yes. First day, no. Restaurant is very nice inside and out. Large murals airbrushed on the walls, It's very spacious inside. You won't be rubbing elbows with fellow diners. This building has had a number of failed restaurants in it over the years. I'm hoping El Vallarta stands the test of time. There's just no good visibility from either 84th street or Giles road and no major retail anchors to draw in crowds. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a very friendly hostess. I was seated at a booth and my waiter promptly came over to greet me and take my drink order. The salsa girl (is that what they're called?) brought me my chips and salsa. Overall, very friendly and attentive service. I ordered the Chile Colorado. It was good. The beef was tender and the sauce very flavorful. Refried beans were also good. I never eat the rice, so I can't help you there. My brother ordered the Mar y Tierra (think Mexican surf-n-turf). He loved it and thought the beef was excellent. Complimentary chips and salsa were also good. While this isn't the most stellar Mexican food I've ever had it is good and worth trying. I look forward to sampling some of their other items. It may be a little pricier than you expect Mexican cuisine to be. Many entrées are in the $10-$14 range. Restaurant was very clean and in excellent repair. Several typos and misprints in the menu. Looks like someone didn't do a very good job proofreading it before printing.

Daddy Date Night! Me + 3 kids to El Vallarta. Service was great. She kept the chips, salsa and waters full. The salsa and chips were more than solid. The kids all got the kids tacos + beans & rices. I got the chile relleno + chalupa. It was pretty good. My son smashed his, and my girls picked at theirs. 1 out of 3 isn't bad(I think they had a big snack a few hours previous). Oh and I got a Vallarta margarita which was very tasty. Overall great service, good food. I would have no reservations visiting again, but I wouldn't go out of the way for it.

My sister & I went in on a Wednesday night. Although the hostess was not at the desk, someone did see us & seat us at a booth. We were given chips & salsa immediately & these were the standard ones though pleasant to have to eat. We were given plenty of time to decide what to order, and they complied with a request to make a change in the dish that I ordered. The food was excellent & so were the drinks & atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place to others, and it is at a good location for LaVista residents.

I've gone there several time now. The first time was not long after they opened and my roommate and I had a lot of fun with all the typos in the menu. The mild salsa was too mild and the hotter salsa was too smokey and a bit bitter. I had what was supposed to be a spicy dish and it wasn't spicy enough for me. But the service was excellent and the food was otherwise good. I went back a month or two later and wow. The regular salsa has far more flavor and I couldn't get enough of it. The same dish was more spicy. I've tried several other dishes and really enjoy them. The Spanish rice doesn't taste like most I've had but it is very good rice and far better than some places that taste like tabasco sauce. I've been very happy with my meals every time I go and I often stop buy to purchase chips and salsa to go for the weekend I don't like tomatoes and normally don't like chunky salsa but I eat their salsa up like crazy. I can't get enough of it! The service is always great and the manager often wanders by to make sure everything is going well.

Ate here last night with the whole family. The bottom line is- we'll be back. The service was attentive and very upbeat, and the food was well received by everyone. Youngest had a kids meal, which was basic fare. Plenty of food on his plate, not that it mattered since he'd already demolished our guacamole appetizer and a ton of chips/salsa. Others at the table had a quesadilla (fantastic) huevos rancheros (seriously delicious), an enchilada plate (somewhat on the small side), and I had the ranchero steak. The ranchero steak was 2 thin slices of beef, seared with green peppers and onions. Flavor was on point and portion was good. Beans are a little bland, but overall ok. My only gripe was with the odd enchilada sauce that came on my enchilada and my husband's. It's almost a beef gravy, rather than a typical red chili. The spice level was missing, but it was still flavorful. I really did think they have a good start to the kind of place people are going to want to return to time and again. I know we're planning to visit again soon.

Great Mexican food, generous proportions and good service. Free chips and salsa and the salsa is top notch. Both the tacos and enchiladas were very tasty. This is my new favorite mexican restaurant. They do have kids meals that are averaged priced.

Nice place, good decor, chips & salsa was good. However the food was void of any taste. Mexican rice had no "Mexican flavor" - actually hardly any flavor at all. Both my husbands and my meals were just - well, blah.

Came in twenty minutes to close, got great service and hot fresh food, which is always tough late at night. Antonia in the bar area was awesome and super helpful. We will be back!

I'm not sure if we just came on an off night (Saturday, but it was far from busy) but our experience at El Vallarta was truly horrible. The service is what really killed it. While the salsa was delicious, and our table went through our chips quickly, the server failed to return and even ask whether we wanted more chips and salsa. My wife ordered the small margarita and ended up getting charged for a large one ($1.50 difference), and she wasn't asked whether she wanted another after she finished it. Our entire drink order was screwed up, but not nearly as screwed up as our food order. Not one person's food order was correct, and they never got it right, even after spending 10 minutes trying to fix it. Half the table sat their twiddling their thumbs waiting for our food while the other half had their order. My wife had a veggie enchilada, and it had a hair in it (not hers). The portions were not big, and the quality of food was barely above a fast food place (the red sauce on my enchilada was clearly out of a large can). It was overpriced, and we were charged for items we didn't even order; we got straight up ripped off. The server was terrible and made exactly three stops to our table. He spent most of his time at the computer going through bills and looking angry. We are desperate for a decent Mexican food restaurant in the Papio Lavista area, but this one is not the one. Save your money unless you have low expectations, and do not sit in Jose's section (he has a flat top haircut short on the sides and back) unless you are looking to get overcharged and underserved. Best of luck!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
